Description
Marchesi di Barolo Barolo Riserva 2016 is a refined expression of Nebbiolo from one of Piedmont’s most historic and respected estates. Crafted for the long haul, it combines the structure and depth expected of great Barolo with the elegance and precision that have made Marchesi di Barolo a benchmark name in the region.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it typically shows the classic Barolo profile: a garnet-red color with brick nuances beginning to emerge at the rim. The nose is complex and layered, often opening with dried rose petals, sour cherry, plum, and violet, followed by earthy notes of truffle, leather, tobacco, and sweet spice.
On the palate, this Riserva is likely to be powerful yet polished, with firm tannins, vibrant acidity, and a long, savory finish. Nebbiolo’s signature tension gives the wine both lift and longevity, and this is a wine that can age gracefully for many years, developing even greater nuance and depth with cellaring.
Production
Sourced from the clay-limestone hills of Piedmont, the wine reflects the cool climate and slow ripening conditions that give Nebbiolo its aromatic complexity and firm structure. Harvesting is typically carried out by hand to preserve fruit quality, and vinification follows traditional Barolo methods with careful maceration and extended maturation, often in large oak casks, to soften the tannins while preserving the grape’s character.
Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for rich Piedmontese dishes such as braised beef, osso buco, truffle risotto, and tajarin pasta with meat ragù. It also pairs beautifully with aged cheeses and game. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant for at least one to two hours if drinking young to allow the aromas and tannins to खुल fully.
Producer
Marchesi di Barolo is one of the defining names in the history of Barolo, with roots going back to the early 19th century and a close connection to the evolution of the wine itself. Based in the heart of Piedmont, the estate is known for its commitment to tradition, quality, and classic expressions of Nebbiolo, and has earned a strong reputation both in Italy and internationally for producing wines with depth, elegance, and ageworthiness.
