Description
Maçanita Tinto 2024 is a vibrant, modern expression of the Douro that combines ripe fruit, freshness, and a distinctly terroir-driven character. Crafted from high-altitude parcels in Cima Corgo, it reflects the region’s power with an elegance and ease that make it immediately appealing. Produced by the Maçanita siblings, it continues the area’s tradition of bold, characterful reds, but with a lighter, more refined touch.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep, youthful ruby tone that hints at its fruit-forward personality. The nose opens with dark cherry, violet, forest floor, and subtle notes of cocoa and pepper, giving the wine both perfume and complexity.
The palate is juicy and medium-bodied, with ripe tannins and fresh acidity creating a balanced, lively frame. It has enough structure to develop nicely over the next few years, while remaining very enjoyable in its youth for its bright fruit and graceful texture.
Production
The grapes come from higher-altitude parcels in Cima Corgo, where granitic soils help preserve freshness, finesse, and definition in the wine. Touriga Nacional is the focus here, supported by other traditional Douro varieties such as Sousão and Touriga Franca, all harvested and vinified with a gentle hand to protect the fruit’s purity. Partial aging in used barrels adds texture without masking the wine’s natural energy.
Food & Serving
This is a versatile red for grilled meats, roast lamb, duck, mushroom dishes, or Portuguese charcuterie and aged cheeses. Serve it slightly cool, around 16–18°C, to highlight the wine’s freshness and aromatic lift. Decanting is not essential, but a short airing can help the aromas open up if enjoyed soon after opening.
Producer
Maçanita is a respected Portuguese producer known for making wines that are expressive, precise, and deeply rooted in place. The estate has built a strong reputation for highlighting the diversity and quality of the Douro through a contemporary lens. With a focus on balance, freshness, and authenticity, the Maçanita siblings have become notable voices in modern Portuguese winemaking.
