Maçanita Tinto 2021 is a vibrant, modern expression of the Douro that balances ripe fruit, freshness and a clear sense of place. Made by the Maçanita siblings, it shows how the region’s natural power can be shaped into a wine that is both immediately approachable and distinctly elegant.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep, youthful colour with the energy you’d expect from a fruit-driven Douro red. The nose is lifted and expressive, with dark cherry, violet, forest floor and subtle notes of cocoa and pepper. The palate is juicy and medium-bodied, with ripe tannins and fresh acidity that give the wine definition without heaviness. There is plenty of fruit, but also a savoury, mineral edge that keeps it poised. It should drink well now, while retaining the balance and structure to develop nicely over the next few years.

Production
The grapes come from higher-altitude parcels in Cima Corgo, with vineyards planted mainly on granite-rich soils that bring finesse, freshness and tension to the wine. The blend is built around Touriga Nacional, with support from local Douro varieties such as Sousão and Touriga Franca, and the fruit is harvested with care to preserve purity and aromatic intensity. Vinification is carried out with gentle extraction to maintain freshness and highlight the character of the fruit. A portion of the wine is matured in used barrels, allowing texture and complexity to develop without overshadowing the wine’s bright, terroir-driven profile.

Food & Serving
This is a versatile red for the table, pairing well with grilled lamb, roast pork, duck, mushroom dishes and flavorful Mediterranean cuisine. It also works beautifully with hard cheeses and chargrilled vegetables. Serve it at 16-18°C, and decanting for around 30 minutes can help open up the aromatics, especially if served young.
