Macanita Os Caniveis Branco 2022 is a rare, small-production white from Portugal’s Douro, made from old vineyards in Carlão at 520 meters above sea level. Crafted from a blend of traditional local white varieties, it reflects both the precision of Maçanita and the character of a landscape where schist gradually gives way to granite.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a bright lemon-yellow color, with a refined citrus-led bouquet lifted by fresh, clean aromas. The palate is textured and concentrated, with balanced acidity, a rich mid-palate, and a long, persistent finish that stays impressively fresh. There is enough depth here to evolve gracefully over the next few years, gaining nuance and complexity while retaining its lively structure. Its combination of tension and richness gives it both immediate appeal and good cellar potential.

Production
The grapes come from old vines in Carlão, a high-altitude Douro site where transition soils of schist and granite contribute mineral tension and freshness. The fruit is harvested by hand and pressed gently as whole clusters, followed by spontaneous fermentation and 10 months of aging, with 25% in new oak and 75% in stainless steel, including bâtonnage to build texture.

Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with fish, shellfish, and other seafood dishes, but it also has enough structure to work well with lighter white meats and more delicate poultry preparations. Serve at around 10°C, and decanting is not essential, though a brief aeration can help if opening it young.
