Maçanita Letra F 2022

Maçanita Letra F 2022 is a distinctive red from Portugal’s Douro, crafted by siblings Joana and António Maçanita with a clear focus on freshness, precision, and regional character. Made from Tempranillo and Touriga Nacional, it combines the depth of old-vine fruit with the lift and mineral tension that come from the high-altitude vineyards of Cima Corgo.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows an open ruby-red colour with a bright, inviting sheen. The nose is expressive and refined, unfolding with mineral tones, white flowers, and vivid red fruit. The palate is fresh and lively, driven by marked acidity and a sense of intensity and concentration. The high-altitude vineyard sites and old vines give the wine energy and structure, while its stainless-steel ageing helps preserve its pure, vibrant fruit profile. It should drink beautifully now and is likely to hold well over the next few years.

Production
The grapes come from granite-rich soils in the Cima Corgo area of Douro, grown at elevations between 480 and 720 metres, where cooler conditions help preserve freshness and mineral drive. The fruit is hand-harvested, then undergoes cold pre-maceration before spontaneous fermentation in small lagares, with 28 days of skin contact. The wine is matured for 12 months in stainless steel to maintain its crisp, expressive style.

Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for dark meats, tartare, grilled dishes, cheeses, and even lightly sweet desserts. Serve at around 16°C, and for the best expression, enjoy it closer to 18°C; decanting is not essential, though a short aeration can help the wine open up in its youth.
