Description
Lungoparma Il Classico Metodo Classico Brut is a vibrant, Italian sparkling wine that brings together tradition and modern flair in one elegant bottle. Crafted from Pinot Nero and Chardonnay in Emilia-Romagna, it offers the finesse of classic-method bubbles with a fresh, approachable personality. Aged 30 months on the lees and further refined after disgorgement, it delivers depth and complexity while remaining wonderfully drinkable.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, Il Classico Metodo Classico Brut shows a bright straw-yellow color with subtle copper reflections from the Pinot Nero, crowned by a fine and persistent perlage. The nose is inviting and expressive, with notes of citrus zest, green apple, white flowers, and fresh bread crust, layered with hints of almond and delicate brioche from the extended lees aging.
On the palate, it is dry, crisp, and beautifully balanced, combining lively acidity with a creamy, well-integrated mousse. Flavors of lemon, pear, and orchard fruit mingle with nuances of toasted hazelnut and yeast, giving both freshness and structure. The finish is clean, saline, and pleasantly lingering, making it as suitable for an aperitif as it is for the table. With its 30 months on the lees and at least 6 months of bottle rest after disgorgement, this Brut has the structure to evolve gracefully for a few more years, gaining additional toasty and nutty complexity.
Production
Sourced from selected vineyards in Emilia-Romagna, Lungoparma Il Classico benefits from a mix of fertile plains and gentle hills influenced by the Apennines and nearby river systems, providing good diurnal range and freshness in the grapes. Pinot Nero and Chardonnay are harvested at optimal ripeness for sparkling wine, prioritizing acidity and aromatic purity. After a gentle pressing and primary fermentation in temperature-controlled tanks, the cuvée undergoes a second fermentation in the bottle in the true Metodo Classico style. The wine matures for 30 months on its lees, gaining texture, complexity, and fine bubbles, before disgorgement and a further minimum of 6 months’ bottle aging to harmonize the dosage and refine its profile.
Food & Serving
This Brut is a versatile food companion, ideal as an aperitif with olives, charcuterie, and Parmigiano Reggiano, or alongside classic Italian antipasti such as crostini, fried seafood, or arancini. It also pairs beautifully with sushi, oysters, grilled fish, light pasta dishes, and soft cheeses. Serve well-chilled at around 6–8°C (43–46°F) for maximum freshness. A brief 10–15 minutes in the glass or an open bottle is enough to let the aromas unfold; decanting is not necessary, but avoid over-chilling to preserve its aromatic nuance.
Producer
Lungoparma is a contemporary expression of Emilia-Romagna’s sparkling wine heritage, drawing on the region’s long-standing love of convivial, food-friendly wines while embracing refined, traditional-method craftsmanship. Positioned between historic local traditions and a new wave of quality-focused producers, Lungoparma has carved out a niche for Methodo Classico wines that feel both serious and accessible. Il Classico represents the “fresh and innovative” face of the range, standing alongside more traditional Charmat-method bottlings and showcasing the house’s commitment to longer lees aging, finesse, and a clear regional identity in the glass.
