Description

Louis Roederer Roederer, Louis Late Release Vintage Brut 1999 MG Giftbox is a Pinot Noir-led Champagne magnum with golden fruit and late-disgorged depth. Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier round the blend with citrus peel, apple and soft spice. The mood is mature, generous and quietly savoury, with the giftbox making it feel ready for a proper table. This is a bottle for pouring slowly from a large format.

About the Wine
This Louis Roederer Late Release Vintage Brut 1999 MG comes from Champagne fruit grown on chalk and limestone, with the house based in Reims and deeply tied to that cellar landscape. Pinot Noir sets the frame, Chardonnay tightens the citrus line, and Pinot Meunier adds an apple-skin softness. In this magnum, the 1999 ripeness reads as peach, pear and orange over a chalky base. The saline detail is clear in the iodine note that sits beneath the golden fruit. Roederer made this as a vintage Brut and kept the wine for extended lees ageing in its cellar. The bottle was disgorged around 2022, long after the 1999 harvest. That late-release profile shows in brioche, pastry and sweet butter woven into the fruit. The 1500 ml format has a measured pace of development, with light gold colour and a long savoury finish. At 12% alcohol, the wine feels full through texture rather than heat. The Brut dosage sits in an off-dry register in the data, and the palate shows it as gentle roundness around ripe orchard fruit.

Tasting Notes
The colour is light gold, with a fine bead that suits a late-disgorged 1999 magnum from Louis Roederer. Aromas move through yellow peach, mandarin zest and ripe pear before brioche, warm pastry and a small iodine note bring the Champagne back to chalk and cellar. The palate is medium to full-bodied, with quince, apple and sweet butter spreading across a creamy mousse. Its off-dry edge feels like glazed orchard fruit, and the finish stays sapid with pear skin, buttery citrus and a savoury echo that lingers after the bubbles settle. After several minutes in the glass, orange oil and baked apple become more visible than fresh lemon. Best from 2022 to 2028.

Food Pairing
Start it as an aperitif with gougères or salted almonds, then keep the same magnum on the table for seafood. The buttery orchard-fruit side is lovely with seared scallops, turbot in beurre blanc or lobster with a restrained citrus sauce. For poultry, pour it with roast chicken and morels, or with guinea fowl finished with cream and tarragon. For a Champagne-region nod, serve jambon de Reims or Chaource cheese alongside the wine, especially if the cheese has a little age. The late-disgorged savoury note also suits aged Comté, where nutty salt meets the wine’s pear, brioche and sweet-butter finish.

Producer
Louis Roederer has a rare advantage in Champagne: a large estate of its own vineyards, farmed parcel by parcel for house blends and prestige cuvées. The Rouzaud family still owns the house, and that continuity matters in a cellar program built around long ageing, reserve stock and decisions that may be tasted decades later. Since 1999, chef de cave Jean-Baptiste Lécaillon has sharpened the focus on farming detail, including organic and biodynamic work across many estate parcels. The house is based in Reims, and its wines often carry a polished texture that feels linked to both chalk fruit and long cellar time. For this Late Release Vintage Brut 1999 MG, the most telling Roederer trait is patience: the wine remained in the house’s care until disgorgement around 2022. On this bottle, that patience reads as sweet butter, mandarin peel, ripe pear and a quiet iodine note under the fruit.
