Description
Lingua Franca’s The Plow Pinot Noir 2022 is a finely tuned Oregon red that showcases the elegance, precision, and freshness for which the Eola-Amity Hills are prized. With its detailed fruit, savory complexity, and lifted structure, it stands out as a polished expression of cool-climate Pinot Noir.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Pinot Noir typically shows a bright ruby hue with a translucent, elegant intensity. The nose is layered with red cherry, wild strawberry, pomegranate, and subtle floral tones, followed by earthy accents, spice, and a touch of forest floor.
On the palate, it is medium-bodied and graceful, with lively acidity and fine-grained tannins supporting notes of cranberry, raspberry, tea leaf, and mineral nuance. The finish is long and precise, with enough structure to reward a few years of cellaring, though it should also drink beautifully in its youth.
Production
The Plow Pinot Noir comes from cool-climate vineyard sites in Oregon’s Eola-Amity Hills, where volcanic soils and persistent ocean breezes help preserve freshness and aromatic detail. Fruit is typically harvested by hand and handled gently to protect Pinot Noir’s delicate character. Vinification generally emphasizes careful fermentation and measured oak aging to frame the wine without overpowering its natural finesse.
Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with roast duck, herb-crusted salmon, mushroom risotto, grilled quail, or earthy vegetarian dishes such as lentil and wild mushroom tart. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decanting for 20–30 minutes can help open the wine’s aromatics if enjoyed young.
Producer
Lingua Franca is a respected Oregon producer focused on expressive, site-driven wines that highlight the distinctive character of the Eola-Amity Hills. The estate has quickly earned recognition for its refined, Burgundian-leaning style and commitment to precision in both vineyard and cellar. Backed by Constellation Brands Europe Trading S.R.L., the producer benefits from strong distribution while maintaining a premium, terroir-focused identity.
