Description
Lingua Franca’s Avni Pinot Noir 2022 is a polished, terroir-driven Oregon red that shows just how far Willamette Valley Pinot Noir has come. Founded by Master Sommelier Larry Stone and crafted with the precision of Thomas Savre, trained at Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, it brings Burgundian finesse to one of America’s most exciting wine regions.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a ripe ruby hue and an inviting, luminous clarity. The bouquet is layered and expressive, with red cherry, wild strawberry, and red plum framed by rose petals, fresh herbs, forest floor, smoky flint, and a distinct mineral edge.
The palate is sleek and medium-bodied, balancing juicy red fruit with savory, earthy depth. Fine tannins and vibrant acidity give the wine energy and shape, while notes of candied blood orange, thyme, sage, and a subtle saline character carry the finish. Delicious now, it has the balance and structure to develop gracefully over the next several years.
Production
Avni is sourced from upper blocks and rocky soils in Oregon’s Willamette Valley, where cool conditions allow Pinot Noir to retain freshness, aromatic lift, and precise acidity. The vineyard sites include red clay and basalt, contributing both finesse and a distinctly mineral, savory profile.
The grapes are harvested with care to preserve purity and detail, then vinified to emphasize elegance, transparency, and site expression rather than heavy extraction. The result is a wine that feels refined and layered, with a clear sense of place and a Burgundian-influenced style.
Food & Serving
This Pinot Noir is a natural fit for duck breast, roast chicken, mushroom risotto, grilled salmon, or pork tenderloin with herbs. It also pairs beautifully with earthy vegetarian dishes, especially those featuring mushrooms, lentils, or root vegetables. Serve at 14-16°C, and decant for 20-30 minutes if opening young to let the aromatics unfold.
