Description
Larmandier-Bernier Rosé de Saignée 1er Cru Extra Brut is a distinctive grower Champagne made entirely from Pinot Noir, offering a more vinous and expressive style of rosé than many blended examples. Produced by one of Champagne’s most respected biodynamic estates, it combines precision, depth, and terroir-driven character in a bottle that stands out for both its quality and individuality.
Tasting Notes
This rosé typically shows a vivid, deep salmon to light ruby hue, reflecting the saignée method and the concentration of Pinot Noir. The nose is layered and generous, with red berries, wild strawberry, raspberry, and cherry, often joined by floral hints, citrus peel, and a subtle brioche or spicy note.
On the palate, it is dry, vibrant, and structured, with fine bubbles and a taut mineral backbone balanced by ripe red-fruit richness. The extra brut dosage keeps the finish clean and focused, making it both elegant and гастronomic. While already delicious on release, it also has the structure to develop further complexity over several years.
Production
Sourced from Premier Cru vineyards in Champagne, the wine reflects the estate’s strong commitment to terroir and sustainable viticulture. Larmandier-Bernier works biodynamically, with careful vineyard management and hand harvesting to preserve grape quality and site expression.
The Rosé de Saignée is made using the traditional saignée method, where Pinot Noir juice remains in contact with the skins for a limited time to extract color, aroma, and structure. Fermentation and élevage are handled with a minimalist approach to retain purity, resulting in a Champagne that is intensely expressive and firmly rooted in its origin.
Food & Serving
This Champagne is especially well suited to food, pairing beautifully with duck breast, charcuterie, salmon, tuna, roast chicken, or dishes featuring mushrooms and red berries. Serve chilled, ideally around 8–10°C, and there is usually no need to decant, though a short aeration in the glass can help open up its aromatic complexity.
Producer
Larmandier-Bernier is a highly regarded family-run Champagne house based in the Côte des Blancs, known for its commitment to biodynamic farming and precise, terroir-focused wines. Over the years, the estate has earned a strong reputation among enthusiasts and professionals alike for producing some of the most expressive and refined grower Champagnes in the region.
