Description

Château Lagrange is one of Saint-Julien’s most respected Third Growth estates, offering the polish, structure, and classic Left Bank character Bordeaux lovers look for in a great vintage. In magnum format, the 2023 release is especially attractive for collectors and enthusiasts, promising excellent development and a more graceful evolution over time.

Tasting Notes
The 2023 Lagrange typically shows a deep ruby-red color with an elegant, youthful intensity in the glass. On the nose, expect a refined Bordeaux bouquet of blackcurrant, blackberry, cedar, graphite, violets, and a subtle touch of spice and tobacco. On the palate, it is usually medium to full-bodied with fine tannins, fresh acidity, and a balanced, layered profile that reflects Saint-Julien’s reputation for harmony and precision. The finish tends to be long and savory, with enough concentration to reward cellaring; in magnum, it should age particularly well and develop added complexity over the next 10–20 years, depending on storage conditions.

Production
Lagrange sits in the heart of Saint-Julien, where gravelly soils and an excellent Atlantic-influenced climate help Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot ripen with clarity and structure. The estate is known for careful vineyard management and precise selection, with harvesting typically carried out parcel by parcel to preserve freshness and expression. Vinification follows a modern, detail-oriented Bordeaux approach, emphasizing gentle extraction, temperature control, and aging in French oak to build depth without masking the wine’s balance and terroir character.

Food & Serving
This is a natural match for roast lamb, beef tenderloin, entrecôte, duck breast, game birds, and dishes with mushrooms or truffle accents. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 1–2 hours if drinking young to allow the wine to खुल up fully and soften its structure.

Producer
Château Lagrange has a long and distinguished history in Bordeaux and was classified as a Third Growth in the 1855 Classification, cementing its place among the great estates of the Médoc. Today it remains one of the benchmark producers of Saint-Julien, admired for combining traditional Left Bank style with careful modernization in both vineyard and cellar. Its reputation is built on consistency, elegance, and wines that age gracefully while remaining true to their origin.
