Description
Lagrange 2017 is a classic Saint-Julien from one of Bordeaux’s most respected third-growth estates, offering the refinement and structure collectors expect from this appellation. Known for its balance, depth, and consistently polished style, it combines the charm of a modern vintage with the heritage of a Grand Cru Classé estate dating back to the 19th century.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it typically shows a deep ruby colour with youthful purple reflections. The nose is poised and layered, with blackcurrant, blackberry, cedar, tobacco leaf, and subtle graphite notes, followed by hints of violet and sweet spice.
On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied with firm but well-integrated tannins, bright freshness, and a core of dark fruit framed by Bordeaux’s signature savoury character. The finish is long and elegant, with good ageing potential; while already expressive, it should continue to evolve beautifully over the next 10–15 years and beyond under proper cellar conditions.
Production
Produced in Saint-Julien on the Left Bank of Bordeaux, Lagrange benefits from gravel-rich soils that encourage excellent drainage and help Cabernet Sauvignon achieve full ripeness and structure. The estate typically practices careful parcel selection and precision harvesting, with vinification focused on preserving varietal purity, freshness, and fine tannins before maturation in oak barrels to add complexity and polish.
Food & Serving
A natural match for roast lamb, entrecôte, beef Wellington, duck breast, and rich mushroom dishes. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant for 1–2 hours if opening young to allow the aromatics and structure to open fully.
Producer
Château Lagrange is a historic Saint-Julien estate classified as a 3ème Grand Cru Classé in 1855, a recognition that reflects its long-standing quality and prestige. Today it is regarded as one of the benchmark properties of the appellation, admired for its consistency, elegance, and ability to express the power and finesse of Left Bank Bordeaux.
