In the glass, Lafleur 2021 presents a deep, vibrant ruby hue with a luminous edge, signalling both concentration and freshness. The nose unfolds gradually, revealing layers of ripe mulberry and red raspberry intertwined with cool notes of mint, rose petals, and iris. With air, more exotic nuances emerge: sweet spices, a touch of licorice, and a delicate hint of blood orange zest that lifts the aromatics. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied yet remarkably refined, with a seamless, layered texture. A core of pure, sweet red and black fruit is wrapped in ultra-fine, ripe tannins that feel silky rather than stern. Lafleur sits on Pomerol’s famed plateau in Bordeaux, France, where a mosaic of gravel, clay, and sandy soils provides an ideal environment for both Cabernet Franc and Merlot to reach exceptional ripeness and aromatic complexity. The vineyard is tended with painstaking attention, using low yields and precise canopy management to ensure perfect fruit selection at harvest. Grapes are hand-picked parcel by parcel at optimal maturity, then carefully sorted before vinification. Fermentation typically takes place in small, temperature-controlled vats, allowing each lot to be handled individually before blending. Aging occurs in French oak barrels, a portion of which are new, to enhance texture and complexity without overwhelming the wine’s natural elegance and purity of fruit.

Lafleur 2021 is a refined partner for classic dishes such as roast lamb with herbs, beef tenderloin, veal in truffle jus, or pigeon and other game birds. It also pairs beautifully with mushroom-based dishes, confit duck, or mature hard cheeses that can match its aromatic complexity. Serve at 16–18°C (around 60–64°F) in large Bordeaux stems to let the bouquet fully express itself. Decanting for 1–2 hours in its youth will help open up the floral and spicy notes; as the wine matures, a shorter decant just before serving will be sufficient to remove any sediment and gently awaken the aromas.
