Description
La Turque is one of the most sought-after wines from E. Guigal’s legendary Côte-Rôtie lineup, renowned for its depth, precision, and remarkable intensity. Sourced from an exceptional historic vineyard site in the northern Rhône, it represents one of the estate’s most iconic expressions and a benchmark for Syrah from this prestigious appellation.
Tasting Notes
La Turque typically shows a deep, насыщенный ruby color with impressive concentration in the glass. On the nose, expect a complex bouquet of blackberries, dark cherries, violets, smoked meat, pepper, and subtle oak spice, with the signature Côte-Rôtie elegance woven through the aromatics.
The palate is powerful yet refined, combining dark fruit, mineral tension, silky tannins, and layers of spice, licorice, and savory earth. It has the structure and depth for long aging, and in a strong vintage like 2021 it should develop beautifully over many years, gaining even more nuance and complexity with bottle age.
Production
La Turque comes from a prized Côte-Rôtie vineyard site in the Rhône Valley, where steep terraces, schist-rich soils, and a sun-exposed slope help produce wines of exceptional ripeness and intensity. The site is known for its warm microclimate and dramatic altitude variation, which contribute to both concentration and freshness. E. Guigal is known for meticulous hand-harvesting and careful vinification, with aging in new oak barrels to build complexity, texture, and longevity.
Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with grilled lamb, roasted game, duck breast, beef tenderloin, and rich mushroom dishes. It is best served at around 16–18°C, and decanting is recommended, especially in its youth, to allow the aromas and structure to open fully.
Producer
E. Guigal is one of the most respected producers in the Rhône Valley, founded in 1946 in Ampuis, the heart of Côte-Rôtie. The estate has built its reputation on precision, consistency, and an uncompromising approach to quality, becoming a reference point for the region and a global benchmark for Rhône wines. Its iconic single-vineyard bottlings, including La Turque, have helped elevate the status of Côte-Rôtie worldwide.
