Description
La Turque 1995 from E. Guigal is one of the most sought-after wines of Côte-Rôtie, known for its depth, precision, and unmistakable northern Rhône character. As part of Guigal’s celebrated La La bottles, it combines power and elegance in a way that has made the wine a benchmark for the appellation.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it typically shows a deep garnet core with evolved brick-toned edges, reflecting its maturity. The nose is layered and complex, with notes of black fruit, dried herbs, smoke, violet, pepper, leather, and subtle hints of cocoa and earth.
On the palate, it is concentrated yet refined, offering dark berry fruit, savory spice, mineral tension, and a long, polished finish. At this stage, the wine is in a mature drinking window, but well-stored bottles can still show remarkable vitality and development.
Production
La Turque comes from one of the prized steep hillside sites in Côte-Rôtie, where schist and gneiss soils, dramatic slopes, and excellent sun exposure help produce wines of intensity and finesse. The grapes are typically harvested by hand, with careful selection to preserve the quality of the fruit. E. Guigal is known for meticulous vinification and long élevage, which gives the wine its trademark structure, depth, and longevity.
Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with lamb, venison, duck, grilled game birds, mushroom-based dishes, and rich braises. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decanting is recommended to allow the aromas and texture to open fully, especially with a mature vintage like 1995.
Producer
E. Guigal is one of the most respected producers in the Rhône Valley, founded in 1946 and built on a reputation for uncompromising quality and precision. The estate has become synonymous with top-tier Côte-Rôtie, Condrieu, and Hermitage, and the La La wines are among the region’s most iconic and collectible bottlings.
