La Mission Haut-Brion Grand Cru Classé Graves, 2008

La Mission Haut-Brion 2008 is a distinguished Cru Classé de Graves from Pessac-Léognan, produced at one of Bordeaux’s most historic estates. Located beside Château Haut-Brion, the property is renowned for powerful, age-worthy reds that combine deep concentration with the elegance and gravelly character of the finest Graves terroirs.

Tasting Notes
Deep ruby-red in colour with garnet hues, this mature Bordeaux offers an expressive nose of blackcurrant, blackberry and plum, layered with cedar, graphite, tobacco leaf, earthy spice and subtle smoky notes. The palate is full-bodied and richly textured, with concentrated dark fruit, polished tannins and well-integrated oak. A fresh mineral core brings balance to the wine, while the long finish reveals savoury complexity and lingering spice. The 2008 vintage is now entering a rewarding phase of maturity, offering both developed tertiary aromas and plenty of structure. With careful cellaring, it should continue to evolve gracefully for many years, depending on storage conditions.

Production
The vineyards of La Mission Haut-Brion lie on the well-drained gravel terraces of Pessac-Léognan, where gravel over clay and sand encourages excellent drainage while allowing the vines to retain sufficient moisture. Grapes are traditionally harvested by hand and carefully selected before fermentation in temperature-controlled vats. The wine is then matured in French oak barrels, allowing its dense fruit, firm tannins and mineral character to integrate over time. The blend is based on the classic Bordeaux varieties cultivated at the estate, with proportions varying according to the vintage.

Food & Serving
Serve at approximately 16–18°C after allowing the bottle to come gradually to temperature. Decant for around two hours before serving, both to separate any mature sediment and to open the wine’s layered aromas. Its depth and structure make it an excellent match for roast lamb, beef tenderloin, venison, duck, truffle dishes and mature hard cheeses.

La Mission Haut-Brion has origins dating back to the 17th century, when the estate was associated with the Lazarist order. Situated directly opposite Château Haut-Brion, it has long held an important position among the great estates of Graves. Since 1983, the property has been part of the Clarence Dillon family portfolio, and its wines are recognised internationally for their intensity, longevity and exceptional expression of the Pessac-Léognan terroir.
