Tasting Notes
With extended maturation, the wine shows a refined, luminous appearance and remarkable depth. The nose is typically more expressive and nuanced than a young vintage Champagne, with layers that can range from orchard fruit and citrus peel to baked brioche, toasted nuts, dried flowers, honeyed notes, and subtle spice. On the palate, it is expected to be rich yet precise, with Krug’s signature tension and structure balancing mature richness. The mousse should remain fine and persistent, while the finish lingers with savoury complexity and impressive length. Thanks to its depth and concentration, this magnum has excellent aging potential, though it is already at a beautiful stage of development.

Production
Krug Collection is made only from bottles of Krug Vintage that have been held back and stored under perfect conditions in the house cellars, where they are regularly tasted until the ideal moment for release. The 1990 vintage comes from Champagne’s chalk-rich terroirs, where Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier contribute freshness, structure, and aromatic complexity. The wine is then allowed to mature far beyond the original vintage release, gaining additional texture, complexity, and harmony before being rebottled as Collection.

Food & Serving
Best served slightly chilled, around 10–12°C, this is a Champagne to savour slowly rather than rush. It pairs beautifully with refined dishes such as lobster, turbot, truffle risotto, roast poultry, mature Comté, or even gently spiced Asian cuisine; a short decant can be considered if the bottle seems especially reserved on opening, though many collectors prefer to pour it directly to preserve the sparkle.
