Description
Kissinger-Bähr Deutscher Winzersekt Nr. 4 is a refined German sparkling wine crafted from classic Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Noir, sourced from the rolling vineyards of Rheinhessen. Made in small batches by an artisan producer, this Sekt offers a sophisticated alternative to Champagne while remaining distinctly German in character. As a traditional ‘Winzersekt’, it represents estate-grown, carefully handled fruit, expressing both precision and elegance in the glass.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, Winzersekt Nr. 4 shows a pale straw to light gold hue, enlivened by a very fine and persistent mousse. The nose opens with bright green apple, pear and citrus zest, followed by layers of white flowers, fresh brioche, crushed almonds and a hint of chalky minerality.
On the palate, this Sekt is crisp yet creamy, with Chardonnay lending structure and finesse, Pinot Blanc adding juiciness and floral lift, and Pinot Noir contributing subtle red-fruit nuance and depth. Expect flavors of lemon curd, ripe apple, white peach and a touch of toasted hazelnut, all carried by taut acidity and a long, clean, mineral finish. Enjoy it now for its vibrancy and precision; with a couple of years of bottle age, the wine is likely to develop more autolytic complexity—think brioche, biscuit and nutty notes—while retaining its refreshing core.
Production
Sourced from estate vineyards in Rheinhessen, the grapes for Kissinger-Bähr Winzersekt Nr. 4 grow on gently sloping hillsides with mixed loess and limestone-rich soils, which encourage both ripeness and a fine mineral backbone. The fruit is typically harvested by hand at optimal maturity to preserve acidity and allow for careful selection of only healthy bunches, crucial for high-quality sparkling wine. After gentle pressing of whole clusters—especially important for Pinot Noir to produce a clear juice—the base wines are fermented at controlled temperatures in stainless steel to maintain freshness and aromatics. The Sekt is then created using the traditional method (Flaschengärung), with secondary fermentation in bottle and extended lees aging to build texture, creaminess and complexity before disgorgement and final dosage.
Food & Serving
This refined German sparkling wine is a versatile partner at the table. It pairs beautifully with oysters, ceviche, sushi and sashimi, as well as light seafood dishes such as scallops, grilled prawns or poached white fish. Its crisp structure and subtle autolytic notes also make it a strong match for soft cheeses, charcuterie, poultry terrines and lightly seasoned vegetable dishes or salads. Serve well-chilled at around 6–8 °C (43–46 °F) to highlight its freshness and fine mousse. For maximum expression, you can open it a few minutes before serving; decanting is generally not necessary, but pouring into tall white-wine or tulip-shaped sparkling glasses will help the aromas unfold.
