Description

Kellerei Bozen Bachmann Pinot Nero Riserva 2022 is a refined expression of Alto Adige Pinot Nero, shaped by steep mountain vineyards around Bolzano and a distinctly Alpine climate. This Riserva combines the finesse and fragrance of Pinot with the structure and precision that the region is known for, resulting in a red wine that is both elegant and deeply characterful. With over a century of Pinot Nero cultivation in Alto Adige, this cuvée stands firmly in the tradition of the area’s most classic mountain reds.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the Bachmann Pinot Nero Riserva 2022 shows a bright, translucent ruby-red hue with garnet reflections at the rim. The nose is pure and lifted, offering notes of wild strawberry, red cherry and raspberry, joined by hints of violet, rose petals, subtle spice, and a delicate whisper of forest floor and Alpine herbs. On the palate, it is finely structured and precise, with a silky texture supported by vibrant acidity and finely grained tannins. Flavours of crunchy red berries, pomegranate and cranberry are layered with gentle notes of cinnamon, clove and a touch of toasted oak. The finish is long, clean and elegant, with a mineral backbone that speaks clearly of its mountain origin. Enjoyable now for its fresh, vivid fruit, this 2022 Riserva has the depth and structure to develop further complexity over the next 6–8 years, gaining more savoury and earthy nuances with time in bottle.

Production
The Bachmann Pinot Nero Riserva is sourced from steep, terraced vineyards surrounding Bolzano in Trentino-Alto Adige, where vines grow on well-drained, mineral-rich soils of porphyry, morainic deposits and limestone at elevations that benefit from warm days and cool Alpine nights. Grapes are typically hand-harvested to ensure careful selection of only the healthiest, optimally ripe clusters. In the cellar, the fruit is gently destemmed and may undergo a short cold maceration to enhance colour and aroma before fermentation in temperature-controlled tanks. The wine then matures in a combination of French oak barriques and larger wooden casks for an extended period, allowing the tannins to refine and the aromatic profile to gain complexity, before a further rest in bottle prior to release under the Riserva designation.

Food & Serving
This Pinot Nero Riserva is a versatile partner at the table, pairing beautifully with roast chicken, duck breast, veal scaloppine, pork tenderloin and herb-crusted lamb, as well as regional dishes like speck, mushroom risotto and alpine cheeses of medium intensity. Serve lightly chilled at 14–16°C to highlight its freshness and aromatic lift. Younger bottles benefit from a brief 30–45 minutes in a decanter to open up the bouquet and soften the structure, while more mature bottles can simply be poured directly and enjoyed as they unfold in the glass.

Producer
Kellerei Bozen (Cantina Bolzano) is one of Alto Adige’s flagship cooperative wineries, born from the merger of two historic cellars in Bolzano and Gries, whose roots date back to the early 1900s. Bringing together hundreds of grower families, the winery plays a key role in showcasing the diversity and quality of the region’s mountain vineyards, from Lagrein on the warmer valley floors to Pinot Nero on the cooler, higher slopes. Over the past decades, Kellerei Bozen has earned a strong reputation in Italy and abroad for its precise, site-expressive wines, investments in a state-of-the-art, sustainable gravity-flow winery, and a consistent track record of high ratings and awards for its key varietals, including Pinot Nero.
