Kanonkop Kadette Pinotage 2022 is a vibrant, distinctly South African red made from the country’s signature grape, Pinotage. From one of the most respected names in Stellenbosch, it offers an approachable expression of the variety with the depth and character that have made Pinotage an important part of South Africa’s wine story.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it typically shows a deep ruby to dark garnet colour. The nose is generous and expressive, with ripe red and black fruits, hints of plum, and the variety’s classic earthy, smoky, and lightly savoury notes. On the palate, it is medium-bodied and smooth, with juicy dark berry fruit, subtle spice, and a touch of mocha or toasted oak. The tannins are usually well integrated, giving the wine a balanced, easy-drinking feel while still preserving enough structure for short-term ageing. Best enjoyed now, though it can develop nicely over the next few years.

Production
Kadette Pinotage is sourced from South African vineyards, with the style focused on preserving fresh fruit character and the natural personality of Pinotage. The grapes are harvested at optimal ripeness and vinified to keep the wine approachable and fruit-driven, often with careful extraction and oak maturation to add depth without overwhelming the varietal expression.

Food & Serving
This Pinotage pairs well with grilled meats, barbecue, roast chicken, and richly flavoured dishes such as lamb or beef stew. It also works nicely with smoky sausages, mushroom-based dishes, and spiced cuisine. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decanting is optional but can help open the wine if served relatively young.
