Description

Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier’s Nuits-Saint-Georges Premier Cru Clos de la Maréchale 2009 is one of Burgundy’s most distinctive and sought-after Pinot Noirs. Produced from the historic Clos de la Maréchale monopole, a vineyard of almost 10 hectares owned by the Mugnier family since 1902, it combines the appellation’s characteristic structure with remarkable elegance and finesse. The generous 2009 vintage gives the wine impressive richness while preserving its balance and freshness.

Tasting Notes
The wine displays a deep ruby colour with evolving garnet tones. Its expressive nose opens with ripe cherries, blackberries and raspberries, followed by notes of liquorice, smoke, forest floor, spices and subtle earthy minerality. With time in the glass, it reveals increasing depth and aromatic complexity. On the palate, it is full-bodied and layered, with a concentrated core of red and dark fruit. The structure is pronounced, yet the tannins are refined and well integrated, supported by lively acidity that brings freshness and length. Now entering an appealing phase of early maturity, the 2009 vintage offers both developed nuances and the energy for further evolution in bottle over the coming years.

Production
Clos de la Maréchale is a historic Premier Cru monopole in Nuits-Saint-Georges, extending across almost 10 hectares. Its Burgundy terroir gives the wine depth, structure and mineral detail, while the 2009 vintage contributed ripe, generous fruit. The available information does not specify the precise harvesting or vinification methods, but the finished wine reflects Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier’s signature balance of concentration, precision and elegance.

Food & Serving
A superb partner for roast duck, pigeon, veal and lamb, as well as refined dishes featuring wild mushrooms or truffles. Serve at approximately 16–18°C after allowing the bottle to come gradually to temperature. The wine can be enjoyed without decanting, but a gentle decant of around 30–60 minutes may help open its aromatic complexity, particularly when served young.

Producer
Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier is one of the most respected names in Burgundy, renowned for producing finely detailed, elegant wines from prestigious vineyards in Chambolle-Musigny and Nuits-Saint-Georges. The Mugnier family has owned Clos de la Maréchale since 1902, and the vineyard has become a defining expression of the domaine’s history and winemaking identity. Under Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier, the estate has earned international recognition for wines that unite Burgundy’s depth and ageing potential with exceptional refinement.
