J. Hofstätter Schiava Kolbenhofer is a distinctive red from Alto Adige that captures the bright, elegant character of Schiava in a refined, very drinkable style. With its vivid mountain-fruit profile and unmistakable regional personality, it reflects both the Alpine terroir and more than a century of winemaking tradition from one of the area’s most respected estates.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows an intense ruby-violet color that hints at its freshness and lively fruit. The nose is delicate yet expressive, with notes of wild berries and the variety’s signature touch of bitter almond. On the palate, the wine is juicy, vibrant, and fruit-forward, supported by balanced acidity that gives it a soft, harmonious feel. It has the structure to age gracefully for around 5 to 10 years, though its charm is already very accessible in its youth.

Production
Schiava Kolbenhofer comes from Alto Adige, where the cool, mountainous environment helps preserve freshness and aromatic precision in the grapes. The vines are carefully tended with gentle pruning and close attention in the vineyard, overseen by oenologist Martin Foradori Hofstätter. Fermentation and maturation take place partly in wooden casks and partly in cement tanks, a combination chosen to preserve purity of fruit while adding subtle complexity and balance.

Food & Serving
This is a versatile red that works beautifully with charcuterie, roasted poultry, veal, light game, and Alpine-inspired dishes such as speck, mushroom risotto, or herb-seasoned white meats. Serve it at 14–16°C, and consider letting it breathe for about an hour before drinking to bring out its full harmony and aromatic depth.
