Il Poggione’s 2020 Brunello di Montalcino is a classic expression of Sangiovese, made from the estate’s older vines and matured in large French oak casks. Open and inviting in its youth yet built for further development, it earned 96 points from Wine Enthusiast.

Tasting Notes
Ruby-red in the glass, it opens with aromas of cherry and dark berries, followed by fragrant herbs, liquorice and a subtle hint of cedar. The palate is full-bodied, with lively acidity and finely structured tannins bringing balance to the ripe fruit.

Production
The wine is made from Sangiovese grown on Il Poggione’s estate in the hills of Montalcino, Tuscany. The estate’s older vines provide the fruit, and the wine matures in large French oak casks. The 2020 vintage is relatively approachable in its youth, while its acidity and tannic structure suggest it can develop further with time in bottle.

Food & Serving
Serve at around 16–18°C, ideally after giving the wine about an hour to breathe in a decanter. Its ripe fruit and structured finish pair well with slow-roasted or grilled red meats, game, and aged hard cheeses.
