Description
Icardi Barolo Serra Riserva 2016 is a distinguished expression of Nebbiolo from one of Barolo’s most respected crus, combining power, precision, and the classic elegance that has made Barolo one of Italy’s great historic wines. Crafted for lovers of structured, age-worthy reds, it reflects both the prestige of the Serra vineyard and the traditional nobility of Piedmont.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep garnet hue with the brick-toned rim typical of mature Nebbiolo. The bouquet opens with aromas of dried cherry, rose petals, violets, and wild herbs, followed by layers of licorice, tobacco, leather, and subtle earthy spice.
On the palate, it is firm yet refined, with vivid acidity, finely grained tannins, and a long, layered finish marked by red berries, truffle, and mineral notes. This is a wine built for aging, and while already expressive, it will continue to evolve beautifully over the next decade or more.
Production
Produced from Nebbiolo grown in the Serra vineyard area of Barolo, the wine benefits from Piedmont’s marl-rich soils and ideal hillside exposure, which help preserve freshness while developing aromatic complexity. The grapes are harvested by hand at full phenolic ripeness, and vinification is carried out with careful maceration and aging in wood to support structure, depth, and harmony without masking the grape’s signature character.
Food & Serving
This Barolo pairs beautifully with truffle risotto, braised beef, veal shank, game, and aged hard cheeses such as Parmigiano Reggiano or Castelmagno. Serve at 16–18°C, and ideally decant for at least 1–2 hours to allow the aromas and tannins to open fully.
Producer
Icardi is a family-run winery in Piedmont known for producing expressive, terroir-driven wines that highlight the character of local grapes and prized vineyard sites. With a strong reputation for quality and authenticity, the producer has become well regarded for balanced, traditional Barolo that combines regional identity with modern precision.
