Description

Hubert Lignier’s 2014 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru is a poised and refined expression of Pinot Noir from one of Burgundy’s most revered appellations. Sourced from the southern part of the Mazoyères sector, it combines fragrant red and dark fruit with flinty minerality, supple tannins and the depth expected of a Grand Cru. Robert Parker highlighted its linear structure, elegant balance and impressive length.

Tasting Notes
The wine displays a deep ruby colour, with the beginnings of the nuanced evolution associated with mature Burgundy. Its aromatic profile opens with raspberry coulis and blueberry, gradually revealing cooler notes of flint, stone and subtle spice as it develops in the glass. On the palate, it is medium-bodied, succulent and finely structured. Ripe tannins are supported by a firm line of acidity, giving the wine both freshness and precision, while the long, tender finish leaves a delicate spicy impression. The 2014 vintage has now entered an attractive drinking window, yet its Grand Cru structure should allow it to develop further with careful cellaring.

Production
The wine comes from the southern part of the Mazoyères sector in Charmes-Chambertin, on the Côte de Nuits, where Pinot Noir benefits from the distinctive mineral character of the site. Domaine Hubert Lignier farms its vineyards without pesticides or herbicides, focusing on the quality and purity of the fruit. The wine is made in a traditional Burgundian style, aiming to preserve the vineyard’s character while building depth, concentration and long-term structure.

Food & Serving
Serve at approximately 16–18°C after allowing the wine to acclimatise in the glass. A gentle decant of 30–60 minutes can help open its aromatic layers, although older bottles should be handled carefully. Its elegance and savoury depth make it a natural match for roast duck, game birds, beef fillet, lamb, mushroom dishes and refined preparations of wild mushrooms.

Producer
Domaine Hubert Lignier is a family domaine with roots dating back to 1880, when Jacques Lignier acquired vineyards in Morey-Saint-Denis at the heart of the Côte de Nuits. Today, Hubert Lignier and his son Laurent manage approximately nine hectares and produce around 24 wines across Burgundy’s regional, village, Premier Cru and Grand Cru appellations. The domaine is particularly recognised for deep, concentrated and structured wines from Morey-Saint-Denis and Gevrey-Chambertin, alongside holdings in appellations including Pommard and Nuits-Saint-Georges. Its traditional approach and focus on vineyard quality have made Hubert Lignier an important name in the region.
