Description

Henriot Champagne Brut Souverain is a classic, house-defining non-vintage cuvée that showcases the elegance and purity for which Henriot is renowned. With an unusually high proportion of Chardonnay (50%) perfectly balanced by Pinot Noir (45%) and a touch of Pinot Meunier (5%), this Champagne delivers both finesse and depth. Sourced from more than 25 crus across the finest terroirs of the Côte des Blancs and Montagne de Reims, and enriched with 30% reserve wines, it expresses the historic Henriot style: refined, harmonious and unmistakably Champagne.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, Henriot Brut Souverain shows a luminous pale gold colour, enlivened by a fine and persistent bead of tiny bubbles that testify to careful ageing on lees. The nose opens with delicate citrus and white flower aromas, followed by notes of green apple, pear and freshly baked brioche, with subtle hints of hazelnut and chalky minerality coming through as it breathes. On the palate, this is a beautifully balanced Champagne: the Chardonnay brings precision, freshness and a silken texture, while the Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier contribute body, red-fruited nuances and gentle structure. Flavours of lemon zest, crisp orchard fruit and stone fruit are layered with pastry, toasted bread and a saline, mineral edge that lingers on a long, clean finish. As a non-vintage Champagne built on a solid reserve wine base, it is ready to enjoy on release but will hold and evolve gracefully for several years, gaining a touch more roundness and complexity with time in bottle.

Production
Henriot Champagne Brut Souverain is crafted from a selection of over 25 crus, primarily from the chalk-rich slopes of the Côte des Blancs—famed for its exceptional Chardonnay—and the Montagne de Reims, a heartland for structured, noble Pinot Noir. Grapes are carefully hand-harvested to preserve freshness and integrity, then gently pressed to obtain pure, fine musts. Each parcel is vinified separately in stainless steel to retain its individual character, with meticulous blending bringing together 50% Chardonnay, 45% Pinot Noir and 5% Pinot Meunier. Around 30% reserve wines, some aged for several years, are incorporated to ensure complexity and stylistic consistency. The wine then undergoes secondary fermentation in bottle and extended ageing on the lees, which builds texture, creaminess and aromatic depth before disgorgement and a finely judged dosage.

Food & Serving
Brut Souverain is a versatile Champagne that shines both as an aperitif and at the table. Its crisp acidity and fine mousse make it superb with oysters, scallops, sushi and other delicate seafood, while the brioche and nutty notes pair beautifully with poultry dishes, light creamy sauces, charcuterie and soft cheeses such as Brie or Camembert. Serve well-chilled at around 8–10°C (46–50°F) for maximum freshness and aromatic expression. Decanting is not necessary, but pouring it into proper tulip-shaped Champagne glasses and giving it a few minutes in the glass will allow the complexity of the blend and reserve wines to unfold.

Producer
Founded in 1808 in Reims, Maison Henriot is one of Champagne’s historic family-owned houses, long celebrated for its Chardonnay-driven style and unwavering focus on quality. Over generations, Henriot has built close relationships with growers in some of the region’s finest crus, particularly in the Côte des Blancs and Montagne de Reims, allowing the house to source top-quality fruit year after year. Known for elegant, long-lived Champagnes with a distinct mineral backbone, Henriot has earned strong recognition among sommeliers and collectors alike. Brut Souverain sits at the core of the range, encapsulating the house philosophy and serving as a benchmark expression of both the Henriot style and the character of the Champagne region.
