Description
Château Haut-Brion is one of Bordeaux’s true icons, and the 2014 vintage shows why its reputation has endured for centuries. As a Premier Grand Cru Classé from Pessac-Léognan, it combines extraordinary finesse, depth, and elegance with the unmistakable pedigree of one of the region’s most historic estates.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, Haut-Brion 2014 typically displays a deep ruby-garnet color with impressive clarity. The nose is layered and refined, offering notes of blackcurrant, plum, cedar, graphite, tobacco leaf, and subtle smoky earth, with the signature mineral complexity that marks the estate’s wines.
On the palate, it is beautifully structured yet polished, with concentrated dark fruit, fine-grained tannins, and bright acidity giving the wine poise and precision. The finish is long and nuanced, unfolding with savory, earthy depth and understated power. This is a wine with excellent aging potential, and it will continue to develop complexity over many years.
Production
Haut-Brion is situated in the gravel-rich soils of Pessac-Léognan, where exceptional drainage and warm, well-exposed vineyard sites contribute to the wine’s distinctive elegance and aromatic complexity. The estate’s production is known for meticulous vineyard management and careful parcel selection, with grapes harvested at optimal ripeness and vinified with precision to preserve freshness, texture, and the character of the terroir.
Food & Serving
This is a natural match for refined dishes such as roast lamb, beef tenderloin, duck breast, truffle-infused cuisine, or game birds. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant for 1–2 hours if drinking now to allow the wine to open fully and reveal its layers of aromatic detail.
Producer
Château Haut-Brion is one of Bordeaux’s oldest and most celebrated estates, with a history dating back to the 16th century. Located in the heart of Pessac-Léognan, it holds a singular place in wine history as the only First Growth from Graves in the original 1855 classification, and it remains renowned worldwide for its consistency, refinement, and legendary status.
