Hacienda Monasterio Reserva 2020

Hacienda Monasterio Reserva 2020 is a rare, ambitious Ribera del Duero made from a strict selection of the estate’s finest parcels. A blend of Tempranillo and Cabernet Sauvignon, it brings together concentrated dark fruit, polished structure and the chalky mineral character that has helped establish Hacienda Monasterio as one of the region’s leading names.

Tasting Notes
Deep ruby in the glass, the wine opens with concentrated aromas of ripe blackcurrant and blackberry, layered with spice and subtle toasted notes from oak. Beneath the fruit, a chalky mineral edge lends freshness and precision. The palate is powerful yet refined, with ripe dark fruit, discreet oak spice and dense, mature tannins that feel silky rather than heavy. Cabernet Sauvignon provides a firm backbone without overshadowing the Tempranillo. The finish is long, with lingering fruit, spice and mineral notes. Enjoy now after giving it time to breathe, or cellar it for further development over the coming years.

Production
The Reserva is drawn from specially selected parcels, with yields of just 30 hl/ha after selection. The blend is 80% Tinto Fino—the local name for Tempranillo—and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon. Twenty percent of the grapes are fermented with stems, followed by a long, 30-day maceration. The wine then matures for 18 months in French Allier oak barrels, 70% of them new. Its chalky mineral character is a defining feature of the wine.

Food & Serving
Serve at around 16–18°C. Its concentration and structured tannins suit roast lamb, grilled beef, slow-cooked short ribs or mature hard cheeses. Decant for around an hour before serving to allow the wine to open; a longer spell in the carafe can be helpful if enjoying it young.
