Guigal La Reynarde 2022 is an exciting new single-cuvée Côte-Rôtie from one of the Rhône Valley’s most respected names. Sourced from the Fongeant lieu-dit just above Côte Brune, it combines the intensity and structure of great Syrah with the precision and polish that have made Guigal’s top wines so sought after.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, this 2022 Côte-Rôtie shows deep, dark color and impressive concentration. The nose is layered with blackberry, red currant, smoked meat, crushed stone, graphite, black olive, and a subtle iron-like edge that opens further with air. On the palate, it is rich and full-bodied, with a beautiful, supple texture and ripe, polished tannins that give the wine both power and elegance.
This is a serious, structured wine with excellent aging potential. While already impressive for its depth and detail, it will benefit from time in bottle and should evolve beautifully over the years, gaining complexity and further integration.
Production
La Reynarde 2022 comes from Fongeant, a well-situated lieu-dit just above the Côte Brune in Côte-Rôtie, where steep slopes and schist-rich soils help shape the intensity and mineral tension of the wine. The fruit was harvested from this prized single site and vinified without destemming, using only punch-down extraction, a method that preserves purity while building texture and depth. It then spent four years in new French oak barrels, matching the élevage of Guigal’s other top single-vintage releases.
Food & Serving
This is a wine for rich, flavorful dishes such as grilled lamb, roasted venison, braised short ribs, or game birds with earthy sauces. It also pairs well with hard aged cheeses and dishes featuring black olives, herbs, or smoked elements. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decanting for 1–2 hours is recommended if drinking young to help the wine open up fully.
Producer
E. Guigal is one of the benchmark producers of the Northern Rhône, with a legacy built on precision, consistency, and long-term aging potential. Founded in 1946 in Ampuis, the estate has become especially renowned for its iconic Côte-Rôtie wines, including celebrated single-vineyard bottlings that have helped define the region on the world stage. Guigal’s reputation for excellence and its deep commitment to top terroirs have made it one of France’s most respected producers.
