Description
E. Guigal Côte-Rôtie La Turque 2003 is one of the most coveted wines from the Northern Rhône, offering remarkable depth, precision, and longevity. Made from a classic blend of 93% Syrah and 7% Viognier, it captures the power of Côte Brune with the elegance and aromatic lift that have made La Turque a benchmark cuvée for collectors.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, the wine shows a deep ruby hue, reflecting both concentration and maturity. The nose is intensely layered with black cherry, blackberry, violet, liquorice, roasted coffee, and a subtle smoky edge that adds complexity and intrigue.
On the palate, it is rich and concentrated, yet refined, with ripe dark fruit, beautifully integrated alcohol, and silky tannins that give the wine a polished texture. The finish is long and persistent, unfolding with notes of kirsch, spice, and dark chocolate. While already impressive, it still has exceptional ageing potential and can continue to evolve for many years.
Production
La Turque comes from one of the most prized parcels on the Côte Brune in Côte-Rôtie, where schist and iron-rich soils lend the wine its structure, minerality, and intensity. The grapes are harvested by hand, co-fermented, and then matured for around 42 months in new French oak, a lengthy élevage that shapes the wine’s depth, texture, and complexity.
Food & Serving
This is a wine for richly flavoured dishes such as venison, lamb saddle, slow-braised beef, game birds, or truffle-infused dishes. It is best served at around 16–18°C, and decanting is recommended, especially if the bottle is opened in its youth, to allow the aromatics and structure to fully раскрыться.
Producer
E. Guigal, founded in 1946 by Étienne Guigal, has become one of the Rhône Valley’s most respected producers and a reference point for Côte-Rôtie. The estate is especially celebrated for its single-vineyard wines from La Mouline, La Landonne, and La Turque, which have earned global acclaim for their consistency, age-worthiness, and distinctive expression of the region.
