Description

E. Guigal Côte-Rôtie La Mouline 2011 is one of the standout wines from the northern Rhône, sourced from the revered Côte Blonde and crafted with remarkable precision. Made from approximately 89% Syrah and 11% Viognier, it is a benchmark expression of co-fermentation and long élevage, reflecting both the elegance of the site and the legacy of one of the region’s most iconic producers.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the wine shows a deep ruby color that hints at its concentration and depth. The nose is layered and expressive, offering red and dark berries such as raspberry and blackberry, alongside violet, spice, toasted notes, vanilla, and a subtle smoky edge. On the palate, it is silky and beautifully composed, with concentrated fruit wrapped in well-integrated acidity and fine tannins. The finish is long and complex, unfolding with dark fruit, spices, and understated roasted nuances. This is a wine with serious aging potential, though it already displays impressive harmony and elegance.

Production
La Mouline comes from Côte Blonde in Côte-Rôtie, one of the most admired terroirs in the northern Rhône, where steep, sun-exposed slopes help produce wines of finesse and perfume. The wine is made from co-fermented Syrah and Viognier, harvested with great care and then matured for around 42 months in new French oak barrels, a signature Guigal approach that brings depth, texture, and polish to the final wine.

Food & Serving
This is a wine best enjoyed with richly flavored dishes such as roast lamb, venison, beef tenderloin, or game birds with earthy sauces. It also pairs beautifully with truffle-based dishes and mature hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant for a couple of hours if opening now to allow the wine to fully раскры its aromatics and structure.

Producer
E. Guigal is one of the most respected names in the Rhône Valley, known for producing some of the region’s most celebrated wines from both northern and southern appellations. Founded in 1946 and built over generations, the house has become especially synonymous with Côte-Rôtie, where its La La wines—La Mouline, La Landonne, and La Turque—have achieved legendary status for their power, elegance, and ageworthiness.
