Description

E. Guigal Côte-Rôtie La Mouline 2003 is one of the most sought-after wines from the northern Rhône, combining power, finesse, and remarkable aromatic complexity. Sourced from the famed Côte Blonde and crafted from Syrah with a touch of Viognier, it is a benchmark example of Guigal’s meticulous élevage and the historic prestige of Côte-Rôtie.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep ruby colour with violet highlights, signalling both intensity and maturity. The nose is layered and expressive, offering crème de cassis, black elderberry, violets, potpourri, roasted herbs, espresso, cola, and caramel, all wrapped in a subtle floral lift. The palate is full-bodied and richly textured, with concentrated dark fruit at the core and a spicy, mineral backbone. Tannins are supple yet precise, giving structure without hardness, while the finish is long, elegant, and silk-like. It is drinking beautifully now, but has the depth and balance to evolve gracefully through 2035 and beyond.

Production
La Mouline comes from one of the most revered parcels in Côte Blonde, where the slope, exposure, and stony terroir help create exceptional ripeness and aromatic detail. The wine is made from approximately 89% Syrah and 11% Viognier, co-fermented and then matured for around 42 months in new French oak, a patient élevage that builds texture, complexity, and polish.

Food & Serving
This is a superb wine for richly flavoured dishes such as roasted lamb, venison, duck breast, truffled dishes, or slow-braised beef. Serve at 16–18°C, and decant for a couple of hours before drinking to allow the bouquet to unfold fully and the structure to settle.

Producer
E. Guigal is one of the most respected names in the Rhône Valley, founded in 1946 in Ampuis and built into an icon through its dedication to quality and its celebrated single-vineyard cuvées. The estate has played a major role in elevating the reputation of Côte-Rôtie worldwide, with La Mouline standing among its most prestigious and collectible wines.
