Description

Gourt de Mautens Rouge 2019 is a characterful Rhône red from Jérôme Bressy, made from a thoughtful blend of Grenache, Carignan, Counoise, Cinsault, and Syrah. Known for its depth, finesse, and sense of place, it captures the wild energy of Vaucluse while showing the precision and individuality that have made Bressy a respected name among Rhône enthusiasts.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it typically shows a deep, насыщенный ruby color with impressive vibrancy. The nose leans toward ripe dark berries, plum, garrigue herbs, spice, and earthy, savory nuances, with subtle floral and peppery accents adding lift. On the palate, it is usually generous yet structured, offering layers of black cherry, blackberry, dried herbs, licorice, and warm spice, balanced by fresh acidity and fine tannins. This is a wine with real aging potential, likely to develop added complexity, earthiness, and harmony over time.

Production
Produced in IGP Vaucluse in the southern Rhône, Gourt de Mautens reflects warm Mediterranean conditions moderated by the region’s natural freshness and varied soils. The blend of traditional Rhône varieties suggests a terroir-driven approach, with vinification likely aiming to preserve fruit purity, texture, and aromatic complexity rather than heavy extraction.

Food & Serving
This wine is an excellent match for roasted lamb, grilled beef, duck, game birds, and slow-cooked Mediterranean dishes with herbs and olives. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for about 1 hour if drinking young to allow the aromas and structure to open fully.

Producer
Jérôme Bressy is a well-regarded Rhône producer known for crafting distinctive, low-intervention wines with strong identity and concentration. Gourt de Mautens has gained a loyal following for its authenticity and expressive style, helping establish Bressy as one of the more compelling voices in the Vaucluse area.

Christmas is approaching, so it’s time to secure the right wines in good time! Jerome Bressy is based in the municipality of Rasteau, located in the southern Rhône. A classic GSM blend, 'spruced up' with two grape varieties that are not permitted here, which is why Rasteau does not appear on the label. The palate offers generous fruit, with an unexpectedly harmonious acidity and soft tannins that tie everything together. Perfect with Christmas Eve dinner!
