Description
Glenfiddich Fire & Cane is a bold release from the distillery’s Experimental Series, bringing together smoky malt and sweet, rum-cask maturation in a way that feels both playful and highly polished. It stands out for its unexpected balance of gentle peat, caramel sweetness, and Glenfiddich’s trademark Speyside elegance, offering a modern twist on a classic house style.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a warm amber-gold colour. The nose opens with soft smoke, toasted sugar, and hints of toffee, before revealing fruitier Speyside notes underneath.
On the palate, Fire & Cane is smooth and layered, with sweet malt, smoky embers, butterscotch, vanilla, and a subtle tropical fruit character from the rum casks. The finish is medium-length, gently smoky, and pleasantly sweet, with enough complexity to keep evolving in the glass. It has good immediate appeal, though it is best enjoyed for its youthful vibrancy rather than long cellaring.
Production
Produced in Speyside at Glenfiddich’s Dufftown distillery, Fire & Cane is part of the Experimental Series, which is known for exploring unusual cask finishes and flavour combinations. The whisky combines peated Glenfiddich spirit with a finish in Latin rum casks, creating a distinctive contrast between smoke and sweetness. As with most Glenfiddich whiskies, production emphasizes precision, consistency, and careful maturation to preserve the distillery’s signature freshness.
Food & Serving
Best served neat, with a splash of water, or over a large ice cube to open up the sweeter rum-cask notes. It pairs well with grilled meats, barbecue, smoked almonds, dark chocolate, or desserts featuring caramel and toffee. Serve at room temperature, and decanting is not necessary.
Producer
Glenfiddich is one of Scotland’s most iconic single malt whisky producers, founded in 1887 in Dufftown, Speyside, by William Grant. Still family-owned, it has become one of the world’s most recognized malt whisky brands and a benchmark for approachable yet characterful Speyside whisky. The Experimental Series reflects Glenfiddich’s ongoing commitment to innovation while staying rooted in its long distilling heritage.
