Description
Glenfiddich 23 Year Old Grand Cru is a lavish Speyside single malt that brings together long maturation and a refined finishing touch inspired by the world of fine sparkling wine. A standout in the Glenfiddich range, it offers exceptional depth, elegance, and a sense of occasion, making it a distinctive release for collectors and whisky enthusiasts alike.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a rich golden amber colour with a polished, radiant sheen. The nose is layered and elegant, offering notes of baked apple, pear, brioche, vanilla, oak spice, and subtle floral sweetness, with a lifted, champagne-like freshness in the background.
On the palate, it is silky and full-flavoured, unfolding with orchard fruits, creamy malt, toasted oak, brown sugar, cinnamon, and a delicate biscuity richness. The finish is long, smooth, and refined, with lingering sweetness and gentle spice. Its balance and complexity suggest excellent drinking now, while retaining the poise expected of a well-aged whisky.
Production
Crafted in Speyside from Glenfiddich’s signature malt style, this whisky reflects the distillery’s soft, fruit-driven character and the region’s cool climate, which supports slow, steady maturation. After extensive ageing in carefully selected oak casks, the whisky receives a special finishing period in casks that have previously held prestige sparkling wine, adding extra layers of richness, brightness, and finesse. The result is a nuanced and celebratory expression built on precision and careful cask selection.
Food & Serving
Best enjoyed neat or with just a splash of water to open up its layered aromas and texture. It pairs beautifully with pâté, roasted poultry, aged hard cheeses, almond tart, or desserts featuring pear, apple, and vanilla. Serve at room temperature, and decanting is not necessary, though letting the whisky rest in the glass for a few minutes can enhance its aromatic complexity.
Producer
Glenfiddich is one of Scotland’s most iconic single malt distilleries, founded in 1887 in Dufftown, Speyside, by William Grant. Still family-owned, it has played a major role in popularising single malt Scotch worldwide and is widely respected for its consistency, innovation, and quality. The distillery’s reputation for combining tradition with thoughtful cask experimentation is reflected strongly in Grand Cru, one of its more luxurious and contemporary expressions.
