Description
Giuseppe Quintarelli’s Primofiore is a beautifully expressive Veneto red that captures the house’s unmistakable touch in a wine meant to be enjoyed young, yet crafted with the seriousness of a great estate. Made from a blend led by Corvina, with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot adding depth, it offers an elegant preview of Quintarelli’s renowned style and heritage. The name Primofiore, meaning “first flower,” reflects its origin as the first press from Amarone production, underscoring its connection to one of Italy’s most admired winemaking traditions.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, Primofiore shows a deep, inviting ruby color. The nose opens with ripe red cherries and dark plums, layered with subtle spice and a refined, savory undertone that gives the wine extra dimension.
On the palate, it is full-bodied and generous, with impressive fruit concentration, balanced tannins, and a smooth, harmonious finish. While approachable upon release, it has enough structure and complexity to hold well for a few years, rewarding those who appreciate a polished, early-drinking red with character.
Production
Primofiore comes from Veneto, where Giuseppe Quintarelli’s meticulous approach has made the estate a benchmark for the region. The wine is based primarily on Corvina, complemented by Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, and is aged for up to one year in a combination of different oak cask styles. As the first press from Amarone production, it carries some of the concentration associated with the region’s iconic wines, while remaining fresh and immediately accessible.
Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for rich meat dishes such as braised beef, roasted lamb, game, and grilled steaks, as well as mature cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C to best highlight its fruit and balance. Decanting for 30–60 minutes is recommended if you want to open up the aromas and soften the structure slightly.
Producer
Giuseppe Quintarelli is widely regarded as one of Veneto’s true cult producers, celebrated for wines of exceptional quality and craftsmanship. The estate’s reputation has been built on painstaking attention to detail, low yields, and a traditional philosophy that has earned it legendary status among Italian wine lovers. Quintarelli’s wines are among the most respected in the region, with Primofiore offering a more accessible expression of the same uncompromising standard.
