Giovanni Rosso’s Langhe Nebbiolo Ester Canale Rosso 2023 is a refined expression of Nebbiolo from the heart of Serralunga d'Alba in Piedmont. Made from 100% hand-harvested grapes, it captures the grape’s signature perfume and structure while offering a more approachable glimpse into one of Italy’s most celebrated varieties.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Langhe Nebbiolo shows a vibrant, still youthful red color with the graceful clarity Nebbiolo is known for. The nose is intense and penetrating, layered with wild rose, blackberry, wild strawberry, peach, and sweet spice. On the palate, it is elegant and structured, with fresh acidity, fine tannins, and a firm, mineral-driven core. The wine balances aromatic lift with depth and tension, and while already expressive, it should develop beautifully over the next several years, gaining more nuance and complexity with time.

Production
The grapes come from vineyards in Serralunga d'Alba, one of the most characterful areas of Piedmont, where Nebbiolo thrives in soils and conditions that naturally encourage precision and structure. Harvest takes place by hand in October, ensuring only ripe, healthy fruit is selected. Vinification includes around 25 days of maceration in concrete tanks, followed by approximately 12 months of aging in 25 hl oak casks sourced from the Fontainebleau forest.

Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for risotto with mushrooms, roasted poultry, braised veal, truffle dishes, and aged cheeses. Serve at around 16-18°C, and consider a short decant if opening young to help the aromatics unfold.
