Description

Giacomo Fenocchio Barolo Bussia 2022 is a classic, full-bodied expression of Nebbiolo from one of Monforte d’Alba’s most renowned crus. Defined by its firm tannic structure, iron-rich minerality and refined floral character, it reflects a winemaking tradition established by the Fenocchio family in 1850.

Tasting Notes
The wine shows a clear garnet-red colour, with the depth and transparency typical of Nebbiolo. Its aromatic profile is both intense and distinctive, combining juniper bark, rose petals, blackberry and clove with an earthy, iron-tinged mineral nuance. On the palate, it is fresh and energetic, with a taut, elegant texture supported by firm tannins and vibrant acidity. Floral notes return on the persistent finish, alongside dark fruit and spice. With its concentration and structure, this Barolo should develop beautifully over the next 15–25 years, provided it is stored in suitable conditions.

Production
The grapes come from the celebrated Bussia cru in Monforte d’Alba, where south-west-facing vineyards sit at approximately 300 metres above sea level. The vines grow in Helvetian soils composed of clay and limestone, notably rich in iron, contributing to the wine’s characteristic tension and mineral edge. Sustainable vineyard practices and controlled yields help preserve the character of the site. Nebbiolo is harvested by hand around mid-October, before undergoing a long maceration and natural fermentation with indigenous yeasts in stainless-steel tanks for approximately 40 days. The wine then rests for six months in steel and matures slowly for 30 months in large Slavonian oak casks.

Food & Serving
A natural partner for richly flavoured dishes, this Barolo pairs particularly well with roasted or braised red meat, game, truffle-based preparations and mature hard cheeses. Serve at around 18°C. Decant for one to two hours when enjoying the wine young to soften its tannins and open its aromatic profile; older bottles should be decanted carefully, primarily to remove any sediment.

Producer
Giacomo Fenocchio Azienda Agricola is a historic family estate in Monforte d’Alba, with roots in the Langhe dating back to 1850. The winery is known for producing traditionally styled Barolo that combines long maceration, natural fermentation and extended maturation in large Slavonian oak casks. Its sustainable approach and focus on expressing the character of its vineyards have made Fenocchio an established and respected name in the Barolo region.
