Description

Giacomo Borgogno Barolo Cannubi 2021 is a refined organic Barolo from one of Piedmont’s most prestigious crus. Made exclusively from Nebbiolo, it combines the grape’s classic structure and longevity with Cannubi’s remarkable aromatic precision. Founded in 1761, Giacomo Borgogno e Figli is one of Barolo’s historic estates, with a long-standing reputation for traditionally styled, age-worthy wines.

Tasting Notes
The wine displays a brilliant ruby-red colour with developing garnet hues. Its distinguished nose opens with balsamic notes of eucalyptus alongside red berries, cedar, dried flowers and delicate spices. On the palate, it is both powerful and beautifully lifted, with a fine, supple texture and rounded yet persistent tannins. The finish is long, fragrant and balanced, promising excellent development in bottle over many years—provided it is stored in suitable conditions.

Production
The Nebbiolo grapes come from the renowned Cannubi cru, whose south-facing vineyards lie at approximately 230–320 metres above sea level. The vines are cultivated organically using the modified Guyot system in medium-textured calcareous clay marl formed from ancient marine sediments of the Po Sea. Grapes are harvested by hand in mid-October, followed by crushing, alcoholic fermentation and an extended maceration of around 30 days with regular pump-overs and a submerged cap. After malolactic fermentation, the wine matures for four years in Slavonian oak casks before a further period of bottle rest.

Food & Serving
A natural partner for Piedmontese cuisine, this Barolo is excellent with braised beef, wild game, veal, truffle dishes, mushroom risotto and mature hard cheeses. Serve at around 18°C. Decant for approximately one hour before serving to allow the wine’s balsamic aromas, layered fruit and refined tannins to unfold; older bottles should be decanted carefully to separate any sediment.

Producer
Established in 1761, Giacomo Borgogno e Figli is one of the oldest and most respected wineries in Barolo. The estate places particular emphasis on the identity of its cru vineyards, especially Cannubi, celebrated for its complex calcareous clay marl and its ability to produce Nebbiolo of depth, elegance and longevity. Today, the winery combines its historic, traditional approach with meticulous organic viticulture, including measures to preserve biodiversity through woodland planting. Its wines have earned international recognition and a strong following among collectors.
