Description
Giacomo Borgogno Barolo Cannubi 2020 is a classic expression of one of Barolo’s most prized historic crus, made entirely from Nebbiolo. Sourced from the legendary Cannubi hillside, it combines finesse, depth, and structure in a style that speaks clearly of its prestigious Piedmont origin.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Barolo typically shows a bright garnet color with youthful ruby reflections. The nose is lifted and layered, with notes of red cherry, rose petal, violets, licorice, subtle spice, and earthy undertones that unfold with time in the glass.
On the palate, it is elegant and precise, with firm but refined tannins, vibrant acidity, and a long, savory finish. The fruit is balanced by mineral tension and classic Nebbiolo complexity, giving the wine strong aging potential; while approachable with patience, it is likely to reward several years in bottle with greater harmony and depth.
Production
Cannubi is one of the most historic and respected vineyards in Barolo, known for its gentle slopes and exceptional exposure in the heart of the commune. The soils, a mix that contributes both structure and elegance, are well suited to Nebbiolo, and the 2020 vintage reflects a careful approach to preserve the site’s natural balance. Harvesting is typically done by hand, with vinification aimed at drawing out Nebbiolo’s aromatic purity, tannin structure, and fine-grained complexity.
Food & Serving
This Barolo pairs beautifully with rich Piedmontese dishes such as tajarin with meat ragù, braised beef, roast lamb, truffle dishes, and aged hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant for at least 1–2 hours if drinking young to allow the aromas and tannins to open fully.
Producer
Giacomo Borgogno e Figli is one of Barolo’s most historic producers, with roots dating back to the 18th century. Based in the village of Barolo, the estate has long been recognized for its traditional winemaking style and for preserving the character of the region’s great vineyards. Borgogno is especially respected for producing age-worthy wines that reflect the authenticity and heritage of Piedmont.
