Ghislaine Barthod’s Chambolle-Musigny Les Charmes 1er Cru 2005 is a beautifully refined expression of one of Burgundy’s most admired premier cru sites. Made from 100% Pinot Noir, it combines the perfume and elegance for which Chambolle-Musigny is celebrated with the depth and concentration of a superb 2005 vintage.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a graceful ruby-red hue that hints at its finesse and maturity. The nose opens with ripe cherry and raspberry, lifted by floral notes and a subtle spice nuance, while the palate is silky and precise, with fresh acidity, fine tannins, and a distinct mineral edge from the Les Charmes terroir. The finish is long and persistent, balancing fruit purity with savory complexity. While the wine can be enjoyed now, it also has excellent aging potential and should continue to evolve beautifully over the next 10–20 years, gaining further nuance and depth.

Production
The Les Charmes vineyard in Chambolle-Musigny is prized for its limestone-rich soils and excellent exposure, which help produce Pinot Noir of remarkable finesse and detail. The grapes are hand-harvested and carefully selected before undergoing traditional vinification with natural fermentation, after which the wine is matured in French oak barrels, including a proportion of new oak, to build structure and complexity without overpowering the wine’s delicate character.

Food & Serving
This is an elegant red Burgundy that pairs wonderfully with dishes such as roast duck, pigeon, quail, mushroom risotto, veal, or simply prepared game birds. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for about 30–60 minutes if the wine is being opened young or if you want to let its aromatics fully unfold.
