Description
Figeac 2019 is one of Saint-Émilion’s most distinctive and sought-after wines, prized for its high proportion of Cabernet varieties and its refined, age-worthy style. As a Premier Grand Cru Classé, it combines pedigree, precision, and a rare sense of elegance that has long set it apart from the appellation’s more Merlot-driven estates.
Tasting Notes
The wine typically shows a deep, vibrant ruby color with excellent clarity and concentration. On the nose, it is expressive and complex, often revealing blackcurrant, blackberry, cedar, graphite, violets, and subtle spice notes, with a cool, fresh aromatic profile that reflects its Cabernet-led blend.
On the palate, Figeac 2019 is expected to be structured yet graceful, with fine tannins, bright acidity, and layered dark fruit framed by savory minerality and polished oak. It should have impressive balance and long aging potential, developing additional complexity over the next two decades or more.
Production
Figeac’s vineyards are located on the western edge of Saint-Émilion, where gravelly soils—unusual for the Right Bank—give Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon an ideal home. This terroir contributes to the wine’s signature freshness, structure, and aromatic lift. The grapes are typically harvested parcel by parcel at optimal ripeness, then vinified with careful plot selection and traditional precision to preserve purity and balance.
Food & Serving
This is a superb match for roasted lamb, beef tenderloin, duck breast, game, or mushroom-based dishes, as well as mature hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant for 1–2 hours if enjoying young, to help the wine open and soften its tannins.
Producer
Château Figeac is one of Saint-Émilion’s most historic estates, with origins dating back centuries and a reputation for producing wines of exceptional finesse and longevity. Recognized as a Premier Grand Cru Classé, it is widely respected for its unique Cabernet-forward style and its consistent quality, making it one of the benchmark properties of Bordeaux’s Right Bank.
