Fertuna Messiio 2019 is a refined Tuscan Merlot made only in the estate’s best vintages, capturing the purest expression of the grape with impressive depth and elegance. The name “Messiio,” meaning “the one who comes,” reflects its role as a special cellar selection, crafted from the winery’s most mature and carefully chosen vineyards.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, Messiio shows a deep, concentrated ruby color with the kind of intensity you expect from a high-quality Merlot from Tuscany. The bouquet is generous and polished, with ripe dark fruit, soft spice, and subtle notes from oak aging that add complexity without overpowering the wine. On the palate, it is round, velvety, and full of character, with a supple texture, ripe berry fruit, and a long, persistent finish. The partial fermentation and time in wooden barrels bring structure and depth, giving the wine the balance to develop further in bottle over the next several years.

Production
Messiio is produced exclusively from Merlot grown on the estate’s oldest and most carefully selected vineyards in Tuscany, where the terroir supports full ripening and natural richness. Only the best grapes from standout vintages are chosen, and the winemaking includes meticulous sorting, careful handling, partial fermentation, and maturation in oak barrels to enhance complexity and preserve the wine’s elegant style.

Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for grilled or roasted red meats, slow-cooked lamb, game, and rich Tuscan dishes such as pappardelle with ragù. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant for about 1 hour if possible to allow the wine’s aromatics and texture to fully open.
