Description

Falkenstein Gewürztraminer 2024 is a dry, concentrated white wine from Val Venosta in South Tyrol, shaped by the region’s mountain climate and the grape’s naturally expressive character. Founded in 1995 by Franz and Magdalena Pratzner, the estate takes a hands-on, sustainable approach that brings aromatic precision and elegance to this distinctive style.

Tasting Notes
Intense yellow in the glass, it opens with inviting aromas of mango and lychee. The palate is concentrated yet balanced by pleasant acidity, leading to a spicy, dry finish. Enjoy it young for its vivid fruit, or allow it to develop in the cellar; the producer suggests a potential to evolve over three to five years.

Production
The grapes come from Val Venosta, where the mountain climate helps preserve aromatic clarity. Falkenstein describes its vineyard work as organic and sustainable, with careful manual attention to the vines. The wine is fermented at a controlled temperature of 18°C in acacia casks over six to eight weeks, then matured in the same large casks for nine months.

Food & Serving
Serve at 12–14°C with fish, cheese, vegetarian dishes, spiced food, or lighter meats. It is particularly well suited to duck à l’orange. No decanting guidance is provided; serve chilled in a glass that allows its aromatic profile to open.

Producer
Falkenstein was established in South Tyrol in 1995 by Franz and Magdalena Pratzner. The family works 12 hectares with a focus on natural, sustainable viticulture and meticulous manual vineyard care. Its cellar, carved into the rock, provides a protected setting for maturation and reflects the estate’s thoughtful, artisanal approach to wines from Val Venosta.
