Description

Elio Grasso’s Vigna Martina shows a more serious, layered side of Barbera d’Alba, from a producer widely respected for its wines of Piemonte. Made entirely from Barbera, the 2023 combines generous dark fruit with polish and structure, reflecting the careful approach Elio Grasso is known for in its Barolo wines.

Tasting Notes
Deeply coloured, it opens with aromas of dark cherry, plum and violet, joined by spice and a subtle impression of oak. On the palate, ripe dark-red fruit meets mocha, dried flowers, blood orange and exotic spice; silky tannins give the wine an elegant, polished feel, while its lively fruit keeps it juicy and balanced. Enjoyable in its youth, the wine’s concentration and structure should also allow it to develop over the next few years. No more specific ageing window is available.

Food & Serving
Serve at around 16–18°C, with a short spell in a decanter if the wine seems closed on opening. Its ripe fruit and structure suit Italian dishes, grilled meats, mushrooms and aged, firm cheeses.
