Description

Dopff & Irion Crémant d'Alsace Cuvée Prestige Élégance Brut lives up to its name, offering a finely crafted sparkling wine that balances freshness, finesse and subtle complexity. Made in the traditional method from Auxerrois, Pinot Blanc and Chardonnay, this non-vintage cuvée captures the elegance of Alsace in a vibrant, food‑friendly style. A refined alternative to Champagne, it delivers premium quality with a distinctly Alsatian character. The blend highlights Auxerrois for softness and charm, Pinot Blanc for freshness, and Chardonnay for structure and precision. Sourced from carefully selected vineyards around the historic village of Riquewihr, this cuvée draws on generations of sparkling wine expertise in Alsace, a region that has produced Crémant since long before the official appellation was created in 1976.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, Cuvée Prestige Élégance Brut shows a pale straw to light gold colour, enlivened by a fine and persistent bead of bubbles and a delicate mousse. The visual impression is one of clarity and purity, promising a crisp and refined experience. The nose opens with fresh orchard fruit—green apple, pear and white peach—layered with subtle floral notes of acacia and hawthorn. Hints of citrus zest, fresh brioche and a light nuttiness from lees aging add complexity without overwhelming the wine’s inherent freshness. On the palate, it is dry and lively, with a creamy texture from the traditional-method secondary fermentation and a well‑judged, zesty acidity. Flavours of apple, lemon curd and stone fruit are framed by gentle pastry and almond notes, leading to a clean, lifted finish with a touch of mineral salinity. Intended to be enjoyed in its youth for maximum vibrancy, this Crémant will hold well for a few years, gaining a bit more brioche and biscuit character with short-term aging.

Production
The grapes for this Crémant d’Alsace are sourced from cool, well‑exposed vineyard sites around Riquewihr, where limestone and marl soils help preserve acidity while adding a subtle mineral backbone. The climate of Alsace, sheltered by the Vosges mountains, offers a long, steady growing season ideal for ripening Auxerrois, Pinot Blanc and Chardonnay with balanced sugar and acid. Harvest is typically carried out at relatively low potential alcohol and often by hand to ensure the grapes arrive at the press in perfect condition—crucial for high‑quality sparkling wine. Gentle pneumatic pressing extracts only the purest juice, which is then fermented at controlled, cool temperatures in stainless steel to retain aromatic delicacy and freshness. After the base wines are blended, the traditional method (méthode traditionnelle) is used: the wine undergoes a second fermentation in bottle and is aged on its lees for many months, developing fine bubbles, a creamy texture and subtle autolytic notes before riddling, disgorgement and a carefully judged dosage to achieve a balanced Brut style.

Food & Serving
This Crémant d’Alsace is remarkably versatile at the table. It pairs beautifully with light appetizers such as smoked salmon blinis, oysters, shrimp cocktails and sushi, as well as delicate fish dishes, poultry in cream sauces and fresh goat cheese. The crisp acidity and fine bubbles also make it a superb partner for tempura, quiches, Alsatian tarte flambée and even lightly spiced Asian cuisine. Serve well‑chilled at around 6–8°C (43–46°F) to highlight its freshness and aromatic precision. While decanting is not necessary for this style, pouring into tall, tulip‑shaped sparkling wine glasses rather than very narrow flutes will allow the aromas to express themselves more fully.

Producer
Dopff & Irion is based at the historic Château de Riquewihr, in one of Alsace’s most picturesque and prestigious wine villages. The estate traces its roots back to the early 20th century, when the Dopff and Irion families joined forces to champion estate-bottled wines and raise the profile of Alsace on the international stage. Situated in the heart of the region, with access to prime vineyards surrounding Riquewihr, Dopff & Irion has long been associated with quality and typicity, crafting wines that express both varietal character and terroir. The house has played a notable role in the development and refinement of Crémant d’Alsace, helping to establish the appellation as a serious source of traditional‑method sparkling wines that can rival more famous regions while retaining a distinctly Alsatian identity.
