Domaine Saint-Damien Gigondas Vieilles Vignes 2023 Magnum

Domaine Saint-Damien’s 2023 Gigondas Vieilles Vignes brings together the appellation’s dark-fruited richness and warm southern Rhône spice with notable freshness and elegance. Made from old vines, including Grenache planted in 1964 and Mourvèdre planted in 1977, this magnum offers classic Gigondas character with the structure to develop in the cellar.

Tasting Notes
Deep and inviting in the glass, it opens with dark berries and ripe cherry, followed by notes of liquorice, pepper and fragrant garrigue. The palate is full-bodied and concentrated, yet balanced by freshness and polished tannins, leading to a long, elegant finish. Enjoyable now, the wine has the depth and structure to mature further. It is expected to develop well over the next 10–15 years.

Production
The grapes come from old vines on the lower, stony terraces of Gigondas. The blend is 80% Grenache and 20% Mourvèdre; after a long maceration, the wine is matured for 12 months in large oak foudres. Harvesting methods were not specified.

Food & Serving
Pair with slow-roasted lamb, grilled or braised beef, game dishes, or Provençal-style vegetables and herbs. Serve at around 16–18°C; decanting for about an hour can help the wine open, particularly if enjoying it young.
