Domaine Saint-Damien Gigondas Les Souteyrades 2023 Magnum

Domaine Saint-Damien’s Les Souteyrades shows Gigondas at its most compelling: a concentrated, expressive red that balances southern Rhône richness with freshness and finesse. Made from old-vine Grenache and Mourvèdre and presented in a magnum, it has the structure to reward time in the cellar while offering plenty to enjoy now.

Tasting Notes
The nose is intense and layered, with ripe cherry, raspberry and blackberry alongside violet, dried herbs, spice and notes of Provençal garrigue. The palate is full-bodied and concentrated, yet remains fresh and poised, with fine tannins, harmonious balance and an impressively long finish. Its depth and structure suggest good potential for further bottle ageing, though it can also be enjoyed young with some air. The magnum format is well suited to slower development over time.

Production
The blend is 80% Grenache and 20% Mourvèdre, sourced from old vines that contribute concentration and character. After vinification, the wine matures for 12 months in large foudres, allowing the fruit, spice and sense of place to remain at the forefront. Specific vineyard details, harvesting methods and vinification techniques are not provided.

Food & Serving
Serve at around 16–18°C, with a little time to breathe; decant for approximately an hour if opening young. Its ripe fruit, fine tannins and herbal character pair well with roast lamb, grilled or braised beef, game and dishes seasoned with Mediterranean herbs.
