Description
Domaine Robert Jayer-Gilles Échézeaux du Dessus Grand Cru 2006 is a beautifully composed Grand Cru Burgundy from one of the region’s most sought-after parcels. Made from Pinot Noir in the famed Du Dessus lieu-dit, it captures the precision, depth, and remarkable aging potential that have made Échézeaux a benchmark for collectors and Burgundy lovers alike.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, this 2006 Échézeaux shows the polished, silky texture that great mature Burgundy is known for, with a refined ruby-garnet hue that hints at its evolution. The nose opens with ripe cherries, wild raspberries, violets, and warm spice, then unfolds into more layered notes of forest floor, subtle smoke, and mineral nuance.
On the palate, it is elegant yet substantial, with red berry fruit, cherry, and delicate spice supported by fine tannins and a graceful, persistent finish. The balance between power and finesse is a hallmark here, and with additional cellaring it can continue to develop tertiary complexity, though it is already showing beautifully now.
Production
This wine comes from the prized Du Dessus parcel in Échézeaux Grand Cru, where the vineyard’s exceptional Burgundy terroir gives Pinot Noir both concentration and delicacy. Domaine Robert Jayer-Gilles was known for a traditional, hands-off philosophy focused on expressing site character, and the 2006 vintage reflects that approach with a clear sense of place and layered mineral detail.
Food & Serving
Serve this Grand Cru at around 16–18°C and consider decanting briefly if opened young, though a mature bottle may only need a gentle splash. It pairs wonderfully with dishes such as roast duck, pigeon, veal, mushroom risotto, truffle pasta, or game birds, where the wine’s finesse and earthy complexity can shine.
Producer
Domaine Robert Jayer-Gilles, associated with the respected Burgundian winemaker Gilles Jayer, earned a strong reputation for producing wines of purity, structure, and terroir expression. The domaine is especially valued among Burgundy collectors for its traditional style and its ability to craft wines that age with grace and distinction, particularly from prestigious sites like Échézeaux.
