Description

Domaine Porte Rouge La Discrète is a rare, small-production Châteauneuf-du-Pape that stands apart for its 90% Syrah composition. Made from a single parcel in Piedlong, it offers a distinctive expression of the appellation, whose long-established reputation is closely tied to its celebrated Rhône wines.

Tasting Notes
The wine shows a deep garnet-red colour, with an intense nose of dark fruits and green pepper. On the palate, it is concentrated yet elegant, with silky, rounded tannins and a long, spicy finish. Its structure and 24 months of élevage in used oak barrels support a long life in bottle. The producer suggests a cellaring potential of 15 to 20 years from the 2022 vintage.

Production
The grapes come from a small parcel in the Piedlong lieu-dit in the northern part of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, selected for its balance of freshness and ripeness. They are harvested by hand and destemmed, then macerated for around three weeks. The wine is aged for 24 months in used Burgundy barrels, adding complexity while preserving an elegant profile.

Food & Serving
Pair with roast lamb, grilled beef, game or richly flavoured mushroom dishes. Serve at around 16–18°C. Decant for about an hour before serving, particularly while young, to allow the wine's aromas to open.

Producer
Domaine Porte Rouge is presented as one of the rising names in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Winemaker Justine Féraud created La Discrète as a distinct cuvée from the Piedlong parcel, with production limited to around 300 bottles a year. No specific awards or further estate history are provided.
